Breath Training with POWERbreathe - My Experience and New Collaboration

Published: 25. 9. 2025

Breathing is something we take for granted. But when it comes to endurance sports, it's the breath that determines how long and how intensely I can sustain my performance. Together with my coach, we've been testing and using POWERbreathe devices, which help to specifically strengthen the respiratory muscles.

POWERbreathe PLUS and EX1 – The Cornerstones of Breath Training

We started with the POWERbreathe PLUS (for inspiratory training) and POWERbreathe EX1 (for expiratory training) devices. Both work on a simple principle of resistance but focus on different muscle groups. Just like with weight training in the gym, we gradually increase the load, working with the resistance of the valves to make the breathing muscles stronger and more adapted. The goal is to improve the efficiency of both inhalation and exhalation, increase the strength of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles, and get the breath under control even when the body is at its maximum.

New: The Smart Adapter

I now have the opportunity to collaborate directly with the POWERbreathe brand and use their Smart Adapter, which takes the entire training to the next level.

  • precise data from individual breathing sessions,
  • progress over time,
  • immediate feedback during exercise.

What we used to do more by feel, we can now evaluate objectively. Just as I use a power meter or lactate measurement, I now have the option to have data-driven breath training as well.

What I Want to Track Next

In the coming weeks, I will regularly incorporate the adapter into my training and gradually share my experiences. I am curious to see how much the systematic breathing training will affect my performance in swimming, cycling, and running.
