Czechman is a legend and the race where I started my Ironman career. This year, I stood at the start with the goal of fighting for victory, but the weather complicated my plans. Just like last year, we were hit by heavy rain and cold.
A 1:30 loss after the swim and a wet course are not an ideal combination for me. After last year's crash, I was more cautious on the bike, yet I managed to catch up to the leaders and stay in the front group from the 35th kilometer. Attempts to break away on the wet roads were unsuccessful. I probably exhausted myself a bit on the bike, but I still managed to run for a fantastic second place, along with a course record on the bike and a new personal best for this distance.
